There are seven habits described in the book. The first three are called “Private Victory”. By practicing them we will become truly independent persons. The second three are called “Public Victory”. By practicing them we can become truly interdependent persons. The last habit is called “Sharpen the Saw” and it makes the other habits possible. Below I will briefly describe the habits, how I will apply them in my life and the results of their application, if there are any before this paper is finished.
Habit 1 – Be Proactive
According to Covey there are two kinds of people – proactive and reactive. Reactive people think that they can’t change their lives and they are under the strong influence of circumstances like weather, what other people think and say, the economy and etc. They are resigned to their destiny; they don’t take responsibility for the situation they are in, and they blame the circumstances and others for everything they don’t like.
Proactive people take responsibility for their lives. Although they can’t control everything that happens in their lives, they know that it is up to them how they will respond to the situation. They are not easily influenced by other people’s words and actions. They are not influenced by “bad weather” like reactive people.
